The upper surfaces of the lid displaying openwork flower scrolls repeated in gilt lacquer to either side, the front featuring several gilt lacquer fan-form reserves, all against a solid brown lacquer ground, the interior cover lifting to reveal an inner copper lining, the exterior mounted with a copper handle to each side. Has own box, lacquered black with green cord ties. Accession File states: "A Hibachi or charcoal heater. Brown lacquer finish. Floral pattern cut through lid, with design repeated in gold lacquer on sides. Copper lined and 2 brass handles. Cracks through sections of top with some pieces missing. Some deterioration of copper lining." 19th Century.
