Description

With hiramaki-e (raised sprinkled metal and/or pigment) decorations of cranes flying above crashing waves, executed in gilt against a glossy black, mounted on either side with a gilt washed copper ring for attachment of silk ties. Accession File states: "Dispatch box Ryoshobako. Black and gold lacquer box; bottom edge of lid curve, green tie strings, 2 birds in design. 2" x 3 3/8" x 3 7/16". 19th Century.
