Description

The shallow rectangular box with canted corners featuring a lid with three narrow slit openings, and a deep double foot with square open cut-outs to each side, the top and foot each decorated with a willow tree and prunus branch in red and gold hiramaki-e (raised sprinkled metal and/or pigment) against a black ground. Accession File states: "Letter holder? Black lacquer, 2 sides have rectangular sections cut out, 3 slits on top, design: willow tree, octagonal base and top." Early 20th Century.
