Description

The lid displays a single blossom among leaf stalks rendered in lavender and light green hiramaki-e (raised sprinkled metal and/or pigment) against the kinji (metallic lacquer) ground covering the exterior surfaces, the interior surfaces of undecorated black lacquer Accession File states: "11064- 65 Small lacquer box, w/ lid curved top, gold background, design of iris in greens & purple, sides purple, 2 1/4" x 1 5/8" x 1 1/8" Walter C. Eells." Artifact Note states: "SMALL LACQUERED BOX PAINTED WITH AN IRIS." Early 20th Century.
