Description

Buddhist ceremonial instrument called a Rue. A fine, hardwood base with three white jade ornamented sections decorated with colored glass, and small pieces of red coral and turquoise. Supposed to have magic power ; when used in Buddhist ceremonies it helps you get what you want. Ru E means "as you please." Accession File states: "Rue or Buddhist ceremonial instrument. Rue is supposed to have magic powers so that when used in Buddhist ceremonies it can help you get what you want, 'as you please.' Hardwood, three disks of white jade, with ornaments of colored glass, and red coral. Donated by David C. Graham in memory of his wife, Alicia Morey Graham." Qing Dynasty 1644-1911.
