Description

With decoration of scrolling vines surrounding a central wisteria leaf mon (crest or sigil) , all executed in gold hiramaki-e (raised sprinkled metal and/or pigment) against a solid black ground, the interior compartment containing six smaller circular lacquer boxes decorated en suite. Accession File states: "Black lacquer medicine kit with lid, six containers with lids nest in interior. All circular decorated with circular crest of wisteria leaves (?) and scrolling vines on gold on tip. Major cracks on side of box, join across bottom. 2 of small bottles chipped." 19th Century.
