Description

The exterior surfaces covered entirely in red lacquer, and the decoration comprising a dramatic high relief study of a single peony on a leafing stalk to the top of the lid which lifts to reveal the black lacquered interior. Has own box. A tag with the old number 11064-16 found inside the box, the box was wrapped in tissue paper then set in an open wooden box which is wrapped in burlap with a second old tag taped outside the burlap (this is how it was found in storage) Accession File states: "Cinnabar red box, black inside, 15" x 3 1/2", flower design in red-carved lacquer."
