One large brass disc. Has diameter of 26.5 cm. Some tarnishing on inside and outside of disc. Three small holes at upper rim of disc. Knotted through the holes are three twisted cotton twin strands. All three then reach up and are knotted together. The number "138 VD" appears on the bottom of the disc. The scale axis is dark brown wood and tapered to a point which has been broken off and now is very sharp, and measures 90.5 cm in length and 1.5 cm in width at its thickest point. It has markings in gold dots all along its front side and has 4 holes along thicker and upper portions of the scale disk. The first hole is about 1.2 cm from the end and knotted through it is another cotton twine that extends 16 cm, and at the end of it is a metal hook which about 5 cm in diameter. Strung through the other three holes is a thicker twine, not cloth, that is doubled over and knotted on the up side of the scale axis. The second hole measures 7cm from the end of the scale axis, the third measures 15 cm, and the fourth 35.5 cm. Catalog lists-The Virgil Davin Collection states: "138 VD Lg. Scale."
