The artifact is a small rectangular bundle of fabric tied with string. The fabric is white and blue or black. The lable attached to the artifact and the description in the accession book refer to pulse, a type of seed of Middle Eastern origin. Accession File states: " Merjemek or Pulse. From which Jacob made "the red pottage" which Esau bought with his birthright. The brown kernals are the natural pulse. After milling it is salmon colored and is mixed with prepared wheat (as in the sample) and is ready to be made into a very palatable soup, a very common breakfast dish."
