Description

Small pair of red shoes, solid toe of red leather that tapers down to a heel-less back. The underside of shoes looks like a stained leather, almost deep deep purple, scuffed. Leather making up full toe is a textured leather and shiny. Inside shoes is black with a thread binding. Strip of green leather along heel. Old catalogue tag states: "7080 foot gear". Accession File states: "Foot gear - the real "Yemene" worn by the common people is built up around the heel but has heel-less soles like this one." Display tag states: "Sample of Footgear used by common laborers and muleteers. The turned up toe is a relic of Hittite times. Marash Turkey. 7080." 20th Century.
