Butter Lamp

Description

Tibetan Butter Lamp of clay. Black, goblet shaped, approx. 5 cm tall, Diameter of bowl approx. 5 cm, bottom is concave with vestigial stem. Lamp appears to have a rusted like quality, almost like stone. Accession File states: "Tibetan Butter Lamp of Clay. A Tibetan butter lamp of clay, used by the Tibetans in worship or merely to secure light. Butter is used as oil, or fuel, and strings or pieces of cloth as wicks. Secured by D. C. Graham at Tatsienlu, August, 1930."
