Description

The vivid red lacquer exterior surface textured to resemble hammered metal, and featuring a boldly carved relief decoration to the lid of two karako (Chinese boys) at play, the interior surface lacquered solid black (warping to lid, chips, cracks); with kiri wood storage box. Has own box. Writing on front lid, identifies old cat. no. 11064-45. Accession File states:"Rectangular lacquer box, cinnabar red lacquer with bas relief of 2 children playing on lid. Black interior." Meiji Period.
