Description

Hammer stone made of rough, light grey stone with dark grey inclusions and a pitted surface. It has a rounded top knob which narrows slightly below to a hand grip which may be unfinished since one end curves in deeply and the other end is a right angle. Below the grip, the hammer tapers out swiftly and then tapers narrower from all sides to a blunt point. The point has a piece missing. Accession File states: "5864 Stone Ax, from Bannock Co., Idaho, near Fort Hall. May have come from East, but used by Indian here. Purch. Clarence McBeth Jan. 24, 1930." Donor File states: "5864 Stone Ax, From Bannock Co., Ida. near Fort Hall, May have come from East, but used by Indians here." Museum File has a list of items purchased from Clarence McBeth.
