Hatchet head made of pipestone with a design carved into the surface of flowers and a bird. The handle has been broken off since before the artifact was donated. The hatchet head has a similar shape to a calumet pipe. Accessions File states: "4972. Indian hatchet of pipe stone made by Blackfeet Indians. From Idaho." Donor File states: "4972. Indian hatchet of pipe stone made by Blackfeet Indians. From Idaho." Museum File states: "Indian Hatchet - made by black-feet Indian (made from pipe-stone, soft when first taken from quarry then hardens with time, handle broke maybe to find)( .Idaho) 4972".
