Description

Pestle made of grey stone with a smooth surface. It has a pointed knob, with a flat top, ending in a wider ring. Below the ring, the pestle narrows slightly then tapers wider in a long handle ending in a stong ring. Below the ring, the pestle tapers very slightly narrower to a flat bottom. The bottom is slightly worn showing use. Accession File states: "6295 Pestle to go with mortar, #6062." Donor File states: "6295 Pestle, (to go with mortar, #6062)." Record Book states: "6062 Mortar of stone, Indian, found twelve feet underground while grading for a railroad, Chehalis, Washington. Mrs. Stella E. (Sickler) Coffin November 3, 1930." Donor File states: "6062. Mortar of stone, Indian, found twelve feet underground while grading for a railroad, Chehalis, Washington."
