Description

A small gold boat carries an angel and a baby down a calm river with various rock formations and lush greenery in the background and a heavenly sky overhead. This is the first image in a set of four created by Cole. As an artist, Cole is regarded as the founder of the Hudson River School, an American art movement that flourished in the mid-19th century. Hudson River School, as well as his own work, is known for its realistic and detailed portrayal of American landscape and wilderness, which feature prominent themes of Romanticism and Naturalism.
