This project was created as a Memorial for Rina Imperial 01' and was funded by the Imperial Family in Memory of their daughter. The piece was Dedicated in the Hall of Science on May 4th, 2010. Artist (& former Sheehan Gallery Director) Ian Boyden's piece was chosen after the Whitman College Art Advisory Committee announced a call to artists to submit astronomy-based installations in honor of Rina Imperial '01, who was an Astronomy Major here at Whitman College. Ian Boyden met with several scientists to strategize the creation of the meteorite book and the ground-down meteorite dust used to create the painting portion of the Memorial.
