Modern Dongba painting. Mountains and earth turn green with the blowing of the warm spring breeze. With propitious birds flying in the sky and the toling Naxi famers ploughing their fields, the whole world is filled with a new vitality. Along with the seeds in the soil they plant their hopes as well. This fertile land is their source of life. An old dongba saying was: "Plough and sow before you are hungry; dig wells for water before you are thirsty."
