Whitman College Coronavirus Stories Collection

Description

In collaboration with students in Library 160: Documentation and Representation in Archives, the Whitman College and Northwest Archives created the Whitman Coronavirus Stories Project to capture the Whitman community’s experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic. In March 2020, Whitman classes were moved online for the remainder of the semester. The project aims to document how students, faculty and staff are impacted as they work, teach and learn from home, and practice social distancing. The goal is to collect the stories, experiences, and evidence of our changed lives, both the painful and difficult, and the unexpectedly beautiful and hopeful. Academic, creative, artistic or reflective submissions are encouraged and accepted. This is a string of texts between my mother and I as we learn more information about the school's response to the pandemic and have to shift plans. For context, she had been planning to come visit at the end of spring break, hence the discussion of the Finch, and she is the HR Director of our local school district, which is the "district" she refers to in the second image.

Description
With the onset of online piano class, Professor Vining and I created a multimedia project. Using GarageBand and iMovie, we layered nature sounds and visuals with two piano tracks. First I composed a baseline to which Professor Vining responded to with the piano. Overall the project uses different forms to communicate a sense of fluctuating change that we have been experiencing during the COVID-19 Pandemic.
