A small round cap. At the top is a black tassel about 18.3 cm in length. The tassel comes out the top of a light metal plate, 5.5 cm in diameter and gold in color. Sewn around this gold metal plate are two bands of small round dime sized coins, 2 cm in width, which are gold in color. These small coins are interlocking and very thin. They are decorated with what appears to be writing. The metal plate and coins are attached to a burgundy wool base with a diameter of about 8.5 cm. Underneath this burgundy wool base are the patterns of white string used to sew down the tassel, metal base and coins. Accession File states: "Fez-sample of fez worn by married women (usually Turks) in the villages of Asia Minor." Display tag states: "Sample of Fez worn by women (usually Turks) in the villages of Asia Minor. Marash Turkey. 7088." 20th century.
