Maxey Catalog Number

Knife or dagger with a long, thin metal blade. The blade is sharpened along the slightly curved edge. Two sets of four lines are incised on the blade just below the handle on one side of the blade. The other side of the blade is marked "ESK 107" on white-out. The handle is a nearly rectangular piece of wood curved on the bottom. Along the top of the handle, a triangular design has been roughly cut out. One one side of the handle, near the back, three gouges have been cut into it. On the other side, a nearly unseen diamond design has been incised. Part of the lower portion has been gouged deeper, perhaps the beginning of the carving. This side of the artifact has a 5.5 cm crack. The sheath is made of two pieces of brown wood in a long, triangular shape. These are bound together near the top with brown and white string. The sheath is marked "ESK 107A" on white-out. A loop of twisted cord protrudes from one edge of the sheath. A braided cord protrudes from the other side about 80 cm. This has knots at both ends. The tip of the sheath is cracked and part is broken off.
