Decorated with sakura (cherry blossoms) mon (crests or sigils) amidst leafy scrolling tendrils rendered in gold hiramaki-e (raised sprinkled metal and pigment) amidst leafy scrolling tendrils rendered in gold hiramaki-e against a mottled dark brown ground, the interior featuring a similar motif executed in gold fundame (plain metallic lacquer). Accession File states: "Octagonal black lacquer box with lid, gold leaf and flower design on outside, same design on inside in gold dust. Some slight chips on corners, cover beginning to crack at corners." 19th Century.
