Comprising an oval case framing a four-tiered lobed stacking box, a lobed sake container, a small ogival tray, and five square dishes, each decorated with designs of abstracted flowers, trees or grasses, along with various mon (crests or sigils) in assorted patterns against primarily nashiji (metallic-flecked) grounds, the top of the case displaying a design of fans and maple leaves around the mounted silver cloud-form handle. Has own box for entire lunch set. Found inside the box, along with the 5 trays was a 3 x 5 note card which states: "'Gunps' the celebrated art dealers of San Francisco, wanted $150. for a similar set, but not as fine as this one. W.C.E." Reverse states: "Very fine Lacquwr [sic] Lunch Set. 1 Tea container. 5 Food boxes. 5 Trays. 1 Tray." Accession Files states: "11064-2 LACQUER LUNCH SET; 1 tea container, 5 food boxes, 5 rectangular trays, 1 clover leaf tray. Lunch or picnic set. Black lacquer w/ fan design in gold & silver on top. Sake container, 5 rectangular trays of varying motifs, 5 'bowls' & 2 clover leaf shaped trays. - Excellent condition some cracking of small trays, shelf to hold small trays." 19th Century.
