Description

Decorated to the top with two sages and a young attendant conversing beneath a majestic pine tree in a garden setting, against an impressed wanzi (cinnabar) ground, the interior surfaces covered in black lacquer, the underside marked CHINA in red letters Accession File states: "11064- 29 5" diameter red case with black inside. The character carved on lid, pastoral landscape - 'cinnabar lacquer' Walter C. Eells." Artifact Note states: "CINNABAR LACQUER." Early 20th Century.
