Description

Pestle made of dark grey stone with a slightly pitted surface. It has a slight knob on top. Below the knob, the pestle narrows slightly then tapers wider to a shoulder. Below the shoulder, the pestle tapers very slightly narrower to a flat bottom. The bottom is slightly worn showing use. Accession File states: "5858 Stone Implements, Indian, Walla Walla Co. S.W. of Riparia along Snake River. Sheffler S Sta. 5 pieces - Mortar, 2 pestles, 2 hammer stones. Purch. Clarence McBeth Jan. 24, 1930." Donor File states: "5858 Stone Implements. Indian, Walla Walla Co. S.W. of Riporia (sic) along Snake R., Sheffler Sta. 5 pieces - Mortar, 2 pestles, 2 hammer stones."
