David C. Graham Collection
Maxey Catalog Number
Ming Dynasty Painting, about 400 years old. Excellent, but dark with age and the dust and smoke in Chinese homes. Green grass on hillsides and rhododendron trees in bloom on the mountains. A beautiful temple on the top of one peak. Graham wrote: "It was first collected by a French Consul in Chengtu. During WWII he was friendly to the Allies, and in Indo-China he was captured and imprisoned by pro-Nazi French. He died there, his collection was sold. I bought this and others. No inscription to indicate artist or exact date." This painting is so long that it was measured while rolled up. Ming Dynasty 1368-1643.
