Wooden shield made of dark brown wood. It is decorated with an incised decoration of four lines around the edges of the shield. Near the top and bottom of the shield are wavy designs. In the center of the shield is a boss made of wood 9.5 cm diameter and 2 cm high. The boss is surrounded by four incised lines on the shield proper. A chip of wood is missing here. Four sets of two lines each run straight from the wavy decoration at the top to that at the bottom, these lines are interrupted by the center boss. Across the top, 11 cm from the center boss and 16 cm below are separate strips of wood on both the front and back of the shield, secured with continuous pieces of bamboo or rattan. The back of the shield has a 33 cm long handle made of a separate piece of wood. There is a depression in the shield below the grip portion of the handle. There are holes near the ends of the handle through which wire and string have been tied. A hanging hook has been added to the top of the shield. A green and white oval sticker with white lettering has been added to the back just above the second set of wood strips. It reads: "D.W. MCFADDEN IMPLEMENTS AND HARDWARE 20-24 ALDER STREET WALLA WALLA, WASH." A rectangular white artifact tag states: "6360 McFadden." Accession File state: "6360 Shield of wood, Phillipines D.W. McFadden Collection Presented by Fred D. and Clyde McFadden, April 20, 1931" a handwritten note on the card states: "returned to C. McFadden 3/10/60"
